Specialty Building Products is currently looking for a Data Engineer to join our VALUES based organization. The Data Engineer is responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture. The Data Engineer supports our software developers, database architects, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and ensures optimal delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:  

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading from various sources while ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and ‘Data Vault’ technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and provide technical solutions to meet business needs.
  • Perform data analysis and troubleshooting to identify and resolve data-related issues.
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into sales and operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Technology teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Qualifications and Experience:   

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in data development or relevant experience.
  • Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL/ELT) tools and frameworks for data integration and processing, such as SSIS, ADF and WhereScape. 
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering such as stored procedures for data processing, SQL for querying and manipulating data in relational databases.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases such as SQL Server.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP etc.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and schema design.
  • Experience with data integration and ETL tools such as SSIS, WhereScape.
  • Working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL).
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to build process supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
