U.S. Lumber, an SBP brand is currently hiring for a Transportation Supervisor for our Altoona, PA branch, operating out of Claysburg, PA.  In this role you will be responsible for overseeing a professional driving team moving and delivering building materials products to our customer base across PA, MD, and WV.  Expect this role to work cooperatively with other branch leaders to meet the site’s business goals, and to provide hands-on leadership to ensure efficient, accurate, and high-end quality service for both our internal and external customers. 

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership to commercial drivers to develop and maintain a culture focused on customer service, and reliable and predictable performance, and accurate paperwork and documentation.
  • Monitor driver performance to observe and coach demeanor, technical accuracy, safety, and conformity to company policies.
  • Dispositions daily delivery issues through coordination with sales and operations.
  • Schedule and execute an effective preventive maintenance plan to maximize up-time of our transportation fleet.
  • Provide guidance and direction to dispatch resources effectively, including optimizing backhaul opportunities.
  • Ensure DOT compliance and training, such as DOT driver qualification files, inspections, random drug screening administration, and required safety training.
  • Investigates and reports accidents and incidents; determines and executes corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness and repair expected of a professional organization.
  • Hold a driver’s communication and feedback meeting at minimum once a quarter.
  • Reviews invoices, work orders, and finance reports to properly manager transportation related expenses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items.
  • Requires the ability to frequently lift more than 50 lbs.
  • Requires moving around the loading yard to assist drivers with securing or unsecuring their loads, and/or perform inspections and routine maintenance
  • Gripping used to operate machinery or hand tools
  • Working on uneven working surfaces, including working in variable weather conditions and temperatures
  • Sharp and/or rough edges will typically be encountered

Required credentials:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
  • 2 years’ related experience in distribution or building materials environment.
  • 2 years’ related experience in shipping, coordinating regional or local deliveries.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • High School diploma. 
  • Must have basic math and analytical skills, and familiarity with Microsoft suite.
  • Must pass the required pre-employment drug test and background check. 
  • Flexible with scheduling. 
  • Successfully complete any required training or orientation programs.
  • Experience with Agility preferred.
  • CDL License helpful but not required.
